Affirmations for moms

Affirmations for moms by Amber Rogals

I’m not going to lie- affirmations for moms has helped me immensely. When you become a mom, it’s a whole different world than you’ve ever known- am I right? You sacrifice so many things- sleep, your body, your time, for some people their careers and relationships, too. I don’t know any moms that say it isn’t worth it, but I think we can all agree it’s hard. Here are some of the things I’ve experienced first handedly as a mom:

-Close relatives and strangers giving unsolicited parenting advice.
-Tantrums in grocery stores
-Feeling guilty about going out or having “time to myself”
-Losing my cool, yelling at my children, and then sobbing later because I feel bad about it
-Holding a grudge against my partner because he “doesn’t seem to value or recognize all that I do”.
-Given up on hobbies and/or career opportunities
-Completely lost my sense of self

And these are just a few! If you’re a mom, surely you can relate, right? I didn’t start using affirmations until recently, but they have helped me so much in my life. If I had even considered looking for affirmations for moms when I first became a parent, I can’t help but think they would have helped reinforce things that I wanted to be, but didn’t feel I had the strength. Now I use affirmations all the time (affirmations for reinvention is my current morning listen, but affirmations for moms, partners, or self growth are all things I incorporate into my life regularly) They’re like a little secret weapon I can use whenever I am doubting myself.

I like to choose one or two affirmations for the week and repeat them to myself throughout the day. Usually first thing in the morning and always before bed. You can say them as little or as often as you’d like, but I feel they are more effective when repeated a lot. I definitely encourage you to get comfortable saying them outloud- even if it’s just a whisper.

Do you feel like any of these affirmations resonated with you?

Will be keeping my babes extra close today and delivering thoughts and prayers in the form of action for change.
I’ve been thinking a lot about creative work. De I’ve been thinking a lot about creative work. Despite my health issues the past 6 months, my photography has seen a lot of growth, particularly with compositional layouts. I love the technicalities, but I’m still looking for more.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I think if you’re an artist it’s normal to feel bored once you have acquired a skill and exercised it a while. If you’re an artist, you thrive off of inspiration and it’s hard to feel inspired or get better doing the same things.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve started an approach to styling that I refer to as “Messy Minimalism”. I absolutely love minimalist photography, but it can be a challenge to make it appetizing, and that is a huge part of commercial photography. As a minimalist approach, I’ve put a pause on using props such as extra dishes/utensils/towels/etc. Instead, I’ve been playing around with only the food to tell the story-so lots of drips, drizzles, splashes, sprinkles and texture-focused shots.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’re a food photographer/blogger/artist struggling to find inspiration try:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-Coming up with a simple, very narrow theme for a piece or series
-Looking through new art books
-Challenging yourself to remove/add something you’ve never tried
-Head to a museum or look at artwork online
-Nature, of course
-Playing around with art, no pressure to share or post. Never forget to play!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Remember, growth comes from challenge. What is one thing you can do to challenge yourself?

A quick glance at what life has been looking like A quick glance at what life has been looking like lately. Whole foods, plant based and lots of focus on sunshine and slow healing. I’m not sure it’s my favorite, and getting creative with new dietary restrictions has been challenging, but also fun. I think being really intentional, prepared and creative makes it easier. Everything still feels new and not entirely comfortable yet. New dietary restrictions, new recipes, new shopping lists, new routines. But with all of that there is a lot of new clarity, new boundaries and new mindsets.

Being a work at home mom isn’t always easy. Okay Being a work at home mom isn’t always easy. Okay, honestly, it’s rarely easy. It’s a lot of late nights and/or early mornings. It’s constant multi-tasking, yet never actually getting caught up with all the tasks that need to get done. Most of my shoots are organized one handed, with Isla on my hip, while I avoid eye contact with piles of laundry and dishes. I sacrifice a lot of 1-on-1 time with my kids and often wonder what types of memories they’ll have because of it. (I think that’s called mom guilt.)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But I made the decision to have financial independence and I’m sticking to it. I want to show the kids how to value their skills and creative minds. I want them to grow up with little to no doubt surrounding their creative potential, dreams and ideas. Too often in this day and age are creative pursuits met with skepticism as a means to putting food on the table. I don’t want to just be the person in their life that says “you can pursue a creative career and be successful.” I want to show them how it’s done.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s not easy, but it’s worth it.

I’m learning the hard way that celiac has its fa I’m learning the hard way that celiac has its fair share of difficulties. For example, when you accidentally eat gluten you’re not just sick for a few hours or even a day or two. It’s more like 8 or 10 days. For me this came from an amount of gluten so small that I don’t know where or when I ingested it, but suddenly my throat and tonsils became swollen, my stomach was on fire and it felt like my insides were being twisted. Gluten effects my ability to regulate emotions, too.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s a learning curve, and honestly, I’m still in a grieving state over it. Maybe that sounds dumb or too extra, like, “get over it, just don’t eat bread”, right? But a lot of my identity was around baking, baking with my kids, wanting to open a bakery one day. My dad and I used to send each other photos of our sourdough loaves and chat about hydration percentages. Part of the kids’ homeschool curriculum was sourdough science. Even the naturally gluten-free grains at Maine grains are processed in a with-gluten facility, so I can’t risk possible cross contamination.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Woes aside, sometimes you have no choice but to embrace change and transformation and I’m trying to see this as a blessing in disguise.
Two weeks ago I got out my new yoga mat and put on Two weeks ago I got out my new yoga mat and put on a loop of affirmations. I’ve been starting my day this way every morning without fail, even if only for 10 minutes while Isla crawls around on the mat with me.

Affirmations can be a really nice secret weapon to have in your arsenal for personal growth. They combat your negative self talk, reinforce your best self, and ultimately lead to positive change.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While lately I’ve been listening to affirmations on reinvention, I’ve been writing down my own that can be used in motherhood. They come from places where I have struggled and know a lot of people still struggle. Here are a few I wrote down:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌸 Being a patient and loving mother is my priority right now.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌸 I am teaching my children love and patience by showing them love and patience.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌸 Self care allows me to give 100% to the people and things that I value the most.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌸 When things get stressful, I can can take the time I need to feel calm.

🌸 I have the power to choose what the best decisions are for my children and myself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌸 When I enforce boundaries for my children, I am also teaching them how to build and respect their own.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Also, a portrait of my littles. They’re truly budding besties and I’m trying to capture as much of it as I can 💕
